Crab Needlepoint Pillow

This exquisite depiction of a land crab is the work of naturalist Mark Catesby, an 18th century explorer who traveled to remote areas of the world documenting regional flora and fauna. Catesby was fascinated by these crabs and wrote "in some Places the Land being almost covered with them, so thick they are . . . the Earth seems to move as they crawl about." This design was licensed by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Mr. Catesby’s work is found in a 1771 publication of The Natural History of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahama Islands (1731-1747) held in the foundation’s collection. Each time you purchase a pillow from the Williamsburg Collection a portion of the proceeds go to support the foundation’s work preserving historic Colonial Williamsburg, the birthplace of American ideals.

The needlepoint Crab Pillow measures 16” x 20” and is hand crafted of 100% wool. The beige backing is cotton velvet, and a zipper offers access to the poly-fill pillow insert. For an additional $20.00 you can upgrade to a more luxurious down insert. Imported.
