Deluxe Custom Crafted Old Saybrook Lighthouse

The Saybrook Breakwater Lighthouse is located at the mouth of the Connecticut River near the town of Old Saybrook, CT. A large sand bar at the mouth of the river made navigation into the harbor difficult, so in the 1870’s two stone jetties were built and a channel dredged between them. This cast-iron lighthouse was built in 1886 at the end of the west breakwater and proved strong enough to endure the hurricane of 1938. The Saybrook Breakwater Lighthouse is best viewed from the water; the walk to the lighthouse along the breakwater can be treacherous and is accessible only by walking down a private road. The Saybrook Breakwater Light continues as an active aid to navigation. In 2007 the U. S. Coast Guard announced that they would be making the lighthouse available for new ownership in the hopes that it can be preserved.
