Deluxe Custom Crafted West Quoddy Lighthouse

The West Quoddy Lighthouse is located along the scenic northeast coast near Lubec, Maine. It overlooks the easternmost point of the United States. A wooden tower was first built at this site in 1808 by the order of President Thomas Jefferson. Local mariners were concerned about dangerous conditions at the narrow entrance to Passamaquoddy Bay. Additionally, the government thought an official presence in the area would give them an advantage when defining borders between the United States and Canada. The original lighthouse was replaced by the current version in 1857. Today the West Quoddy Lighthouse remains an active U. S. Coast Guard aid to navigation. This is probably one of the most photographed lighthouses. While the tower itself is not open to the public there is a museum in the keeper’s house next to the lighthouse. Whales can also be seen in the area.
